Getaway Barrel might be one of the jankiest cards in The Hobbit… so naturally I built an entire MTG Arena Standard deck around it.

The plan is simple: get Getaway Barrel onto the battlefield, sacrifice it, reveal the top 13 cards of our library and cheat one of our gigantic creatures directly into play.

And we’re not exactly hitting fair creatures.

With only these massive threats in the creature slots, Getaway Barrel has some absolutely ridiculous hits.

The rest of the deck is packed with removal, card draw and artifact-sacrifice effects to help us survive, find the Barrel and actually send it to the graveyard. Molten Duplication can make things even sillier once one of our bombs hits the battlefield.

Is this the next Tier 1 Standard deck? Probably not — at least not yet.

Is launching a Sire of Seven Deaths out of a Hobbit barrel one of the most entertaining things I’ve done on MTG Arena this week?

Absolutely.
