Summary

Thanks for checking out my take on Dinos! It’s perhaps a little less wildcard-intensive as others, as I don’t have as many copies of the flagship Dinosaurs in this one. It uses a lot of ‘common’ rares & mythics, ones that go in a bunch of other alchemy decks, so I might call it budget-friendly, but that would be stretching the definition.

Delighted Halfling, Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea, and Up the Beanstalk combine to deliver some of the best ramp in the game, and use it to drop some great new dinosaurs like Bonehoard Dracosaur and Palani’s Hatcher as early as turn 3! And if we get Vorinclex down on 3, we can play Kogla and Yidaro on 4 and Etali, Primal Conqueror on 5! That is, if they don’t give up first.

This deck breaks Roaming Throne – so many of our Dinosaurs have HUGE triggered abilities, dropping this accelerates the deck to ludicrous speed. About the mildest ones are Itzquinth, Firstborn of Gishath and Hulking Raptor. We don’t even need to worry about it doubling the drawback of Pugnacious Hammerskull, because it’s a Dinosaur, too.

I think if I had 2 Etalis, I’d drop Tyrranax Rex, but it’s plenty fine in the deck, too. It makes Triumphant Chomp that much more silly – 8 damage to a creature for just 1 red? Get outta here. Actually, with Chandra, Hope’s Beacon, copy it and send 2 things outta here.

Etali’s Favor is a cool little enchantment that I think is underrated – It gives something trample, which can really work well with some of our creatures that don’t have it, but it also gets you another card with 3 mana or less; it really pays for itself. And the times you can cast it often seem to be the times it gets you something you could really use. I’m a fan.

Chimil, the Inner Sun isn’t crucial to the deck, but it is fun. Getting a discover 5 at the end of every turn can be just nuts; Bonehoard Dracosaur is the jackpot, but lots of our cards at 3,4, and 5 are really good payoffs. If it survives until the next turn, it’s almost always paid for itself.

A late addition is The Skullspore Nexus – most times, we’ll pay only 2 for it, and it gives us dinosaur tokens when our creatures die. Big Dinosaur tokens. And then for just 2 & a tap, it can double any creature’s power until end of turn. At instant speed. Just sick. Tough to block well when any of the creature’s could get double power.
